Dell shipping Ubuntu

Marvellous news.  It is often those in trouble who innovate (just look at EMI), but I really hope this works.  Michael Dell runs Ubuntu at home, which must have been some help for the distro in being chosen.

Stock photography is a pretty common addition to websites, at least for corporates. I find it pretty offensive at the best of times, even though I suspect it achieves it’s aim. Websites can seem rather mechanical and unfriendly, so a few pictures of a smiling girl in glasses looking at a laptop is going to brighten things up a bit, even if it’s utterly irrelevant.

This is the first time I’ve received one in an email though:

dellmail

[Underneath it says: Please note that this E-MAIL HAS BEEN GENERATED BY AN UNATTENDED APPLICATION - REPLIES WILL NOT BE ACTIONED.]

What I love about this is the utter irony of the statement underneath. Here’s an email that opens with a pretty girl saying “Thank you!”, and underneath in capitals it tells you to bugger off. Mixed messages, no?
